Detroit Diesel Corporation was founded in 1938 by General Motors' Diesel Engine division. Since then it has been purchased and sold by Roger Penske and now is a Daimler AG company. Detroit Diesel is a leading manufacturer of on-highway heavy-duty diesel engines for the commercial truck market. It is engaged in the design, manufacture, sale and support of these products in various markets around the world.
Starting in 2007, Detroit Diesel launched the new DD Platform of engines beginning with the DD15®. The DD Platform includes the DD15®, DD13® and DD16™ engines — these engines offer output ranges of 350 to 600 horsepower and 1350 lb-ft to 2050 lb-ft of torque. All three are built in Redford, Michigan and are the main powerhouse for Freightliner and Western Star trucks in the on-highway and vocational markets. In conjunction with the DD Platform, Detroit Diesel has also introduced many innovative technologies including turbo compounding, amplified common rail fuel system (ACRS™) and BlueTec® emissions technology.
Detroit Diesel Remanufacturing (DDR) provides genuine Detroit Diesel remanufactured service parts to the Daimler Trucks North America aftermarket organization under the reliabilt® brand name. For more than 40 years, reliabilt has been the premier remanufactured parts brand in the transportation industry, supplying commercial on-highway customers.
