Daimler Trucks North America Participates in First Hybrid on the Hill Day
DTNA to showcase its latest hybrid technology
PORTLAND, ORE. – June XX, 2009 – Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) will display its latest hybrid technology at the first Hybrid on the Hill Day on June 11, 2009 in Washington, D.C. Coordinated by CALSTART and the Hybrid Truck Users Forum (HTUF), this event showcases hybrid technology for medium- and heavy-duty trucks.
DTNA, together with its customers, Nestlé Waters North America (NWNA) and Fairfax County (Va.) Department of Vehicle Services, will display two Freightliner Business Class® M2e Hybrid trucks at the event.
Nestle Waters, the market leader in the bottled water beverage category, recently purchased its first M2e Hybrid trucks, and will double its hybrid fleet with the delivery of additional M2e’s in the summer of 2009. The company’s dedication to product quality control, manufacturing expertise, employee development and environmental stewardship, especially in the areas of water use, energy and packaging, has led NWNA to the number one bottled water position in the United States.
“We’re demonstrating our environmental stewardship by introducing this new technology as it becomes available,” said Jeff Bush, national fleet purchasing manager, NWNA. “Along with reducing NWNA’s carbon footprint, these vehicles are demonstrating a 25 percent improvement in fuel economy, making the M2e Hybrid both an economical and environmentally sound choice.”
Added Jim Gorby, director of Fairfax County’s Department of Vehicle Services, “Our objectives are to reduce petroleum fuel consumption and to reduce emissions of regulated pollutants and greenhouse gases. The potential to reduce life cycle cost at the same time is an additional attraction. We believe hybrid and other electric drive systems will dominate the automotive industry, and we want to help accelerate that type of progress.”
Fairfax County recently purchased an M2e Hybrid, and uses it primarily for moving library media and materials between branches, as well as transporting a variety of other materials to various county agencies.
Backed by the advanced technological expertise of Daimler – the world’s leading manufacturer of hybrid commercial vehicles – the M2e Hybrid can easily be configured for a wide variety of bodies in different applications such as utility, pick-up and delivery, beverage, landscape, government and fuel delivery.
“The M2e Hybrid is a durable and fuel efficient solution with the added benefit of environmentally friendly power,” said Melissa Clausen, director of product marketing for Freightliner Trucks. “We are proud to showcase Daimler’s technology together with our customers and participate in Hybrid on the Hill Day.”
