Eaton UltraShift PLUS Now Available in Western Star Trucks

LOUISVILLE, Ky., – (March 26, 2014) – Western Star Truck Sales, Inc. announced the availability of the Eaton UltraShift PLUS automated transmission for its 4800 model. Already available for the 4700 and 4900 truck models, the UltraShift PLUS is a tough and efficient option that complements Western Star’s powerful performance.

The UltraShift PLUS – available in six transmission models – suits the needs of both on-highway and vocational applications, and features maximum power capacity, superior acceleration and low-speed maneuverability. The versatility of the UltraShift PLUS fits perfectly with the Western Star 4800, which can easily be configured for mining, bulk hauling or towing & recovery applications.

“Part of the appeal of Western Star trucks is our ability to customize to the application’s specific needs,” said Ann Demitruk, director of marketing, Western Star. “The Eaton UltraShift PLUS gives our customers more transmission options to best meet the unique needs of any job, while at the same time providing better performance and less driver fatigue.”

Featuring a fully automated design, the UltraShift PLUS uses an Electronic Clutch Actuator to engage and disengage the clutch, resulting in faster shifting, smoother engagement and improved maneuverability.

The intelligent shift selection software employs grade sensing, weight computation and driver throttle commands to make shift decisions. In addition, a Hill Start Aid prevents roll-back on steep grades, while maximum engine braking also adds greater traction without the weight and cost of a retarder.
