PORTLAND, ORE. – When Mike and Joe Zubizareta, brothers and co-owners of Curtis Clean Sweep Inc. in Garden City, Idaho, began researching new street sweepers for their growing company, they didn’t need to look far for a ringing endorsement of Freightliner® Business Class® M2 trucks.
Randy Noble, superintendent of maintenance and operations for Ada County, Idaho, was more than willing to offer advice to the Zubizaretas. Noble manages the county’s fleet of maintenance vehicles, six of which are Freightliner Business Class M2s with Sit-Down Dual Drive (SDDD) purchased over the last two years.
“We needed a dependable and efficient street sweeper with the right-hand drive option to clean the streets of subdivisions under construction, which are usually caked with dirt and mud,” said Mike Zubizareta. “Randy works his trucks hard every day. When he shared with us that his Freightliner trucks were the best he has, we knew that Freightliner would work for us, too.”
The Zubizaretas selected the Freightliner Business Class M2 truck with SDDD, which is ideal for street sweeping and road striping - two applications Curtis Clean Sweep specializes in. The SDDD feature allows for smooth transitions when operating the truck from both the left- and right-hand side is required.
Optimal for use in municipal applications, which require a right-hand drive option, the Business Class M2 with SDDD features an up-to 55-degree wheel-cut for maximum maneuverability. An expansive view, courtesy of a 2500-square-inch windshield and low-profile dash, provides maximum visibility.
During normal operation, the truck is driven from the left-hand side. But because driving with the flow of traffic is a requirement for street sweepers, SDDD allows operators to drive from the right-hand side to ensure that sweeper brushes are flush against the curb, allowing for a better, cleaner sweep.
The controls located on the center console illustrate the functional interior styling of the Business Class M2 with SDDD. Easy-to-reach controls such as a toggle switch that engages right-hand drive operation, an ignition switch, transmission shift control, and cruise control all enhance driver comfort and contribute to a superior driving experience.
In addition to the easy-to-use SDDD feature, the Zubizaretas and their employees appreciate the quality and durability of their newest truck.
“As a small business with a tight budget, we can’t afford to spend too much time dealing with maintenance issues,” said Zubizareta. “Our Freightliner truck helps us minimize downtime, maximize profits and ensures that we complete our jobs on time. Plus, our drivers appreciate its functional features.”
