GAFFNEY, S.C….Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation has been selected to provide chassis components for Fleetwood RV’s new Liberty™ chassis, a modular chassis specifically designed for Fleetwood’s American Tradition and American Eagle models.
“It's a totally new venture for us, over two years in the making, with Freightliner bringing their reputation and expertise to our highline American Coach product group,” said Luc Van Herle, Product Planning Manager, Motorized, for Fleetwood RV.
“The chassis consists of modular front and rear sections, which arrive at Fleetwood’s plant,” Van Herle explained. “These sections are then integrated with our superstructure here on site. The whole assembly is very rigid and offers numerous features and advantages.”
One big advantage is Freightliner Custom Chassis’ independent front suspension (IFS). Built by ZF Lemforder Corporation, and exclusive to Freightliner, this suspension will be standard on all Liberty chassis supplied by Freightliner. The ZF IFS provides an industry-leading 56-degree wheel cut for unmatched maneuverability, and multi-link geometry provides for superior ride and handling.
Additional benefits include ultra-modern, pneumatically-actuated disc brakes on the ZF IFS, which allow for excellent braking performance and the Cummins® ISL 370-horsepower engine on the Tradition and the ISL 400-horsepower engine on the Eagle.
