GAFFNEY, S.C.—Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation (FCCC) and Newmar Corp. are teaming up to make FCCC’s Front Engine Diesel chassis (FRED) a “Star.”
To be more specific, Newmar will be offering FCCC’s revolutionary FRED chassis in its 2008 Grand Star motorhome—the newest addition to the Newmar Class A lineup. The Grand Star’s optional FRED chassis, powered by the new 6.7-liter Cummins® ISB engine, has an impressive 340 horsepower and 660 lb-ft of torque—while offering consumers fuel economy up to 70 percent better than that of a traditional gasoline-powered chassis.
Newmar’s addition of the FRED chassis to its newest model, the Grand Star, is yet another example of FRED’s continued momentum in the RV industry as more manufacturers include the diesel chassis in their front-engine models. Other noteworthy FRED features include a 55-degree wheel cut for greater maneuverability, a “flat floor” with no doghouse in the cockpit area, 26,000-lb. GVWR for increased floorplan options and Freightliner’s nationwide network of more than 400 service locations.
“We’re extremely excited to be working with Newmar on the Grand Star offering,” says Tony Sippel, RV Product Manager for FCCC. “The FRED chassis will be an outstanding option for Grand Star customers to upgrade and experience the benefits of a Freightliner chassis and diesel engines.”
“The Grand Star is a unique, new motorhome that features many attributes often only associated with higher-priced, diesel-pusher motorhomes, at a value you might not expect,” says John Sammut, Newmar’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Newmar quality and a FRED chassis make this model option a peerless offering in the RV market today. We’ve already seen significant interest among customers and dealers alike.”
The 2008 Newmar Grand Star is expected to arrive on dealer lots early in the 2008 model year (spring 2007). To learn more about the Grand Star and its FRED chassis premium option, contact your local Newmar dealer.
