Freightliner and Detroit to Continue Platinum Sponsorship of Trucker Buddy

PORTLAND, Ore. – March 2, 2017 – Freightliner Trucks and Detroit announced today they will continue their platinum-level sponsorships of Trucker Buddy International.

The Freightliner and Detroit support will enable Trucker Buddy to continue to show more than 60,000 kindergarten through 8th grade students how important the trucking industry is to their lives. By putting a “face behind the steering wheel” Trucker Buddy aims to show students how trucking impacts the world around them while giving the drivers a chance to teach students, teachers and parents how to safely navigate around trucks going down the highway.

Trucker Buddy matches classes of students with professional truck drivers. Every week drivers share news about their travels with their class. Once a month, students write letters to their drivers. Students' skills in reading, writing, geography, mathematics, social studies, and history are enhanced and learning is fun.

“As Platinum Sponsors, Freightliner and Detroit also support our Outstanding Trucker Buddies and Teachers Program as nominated by students in the classes,” said Randy Schwartzenburg, executive director, Trucker Buddy International.  “Outstanding Teachers are nominated by the Trucker Buddy matched with that teacher.”

“Since 2012 Freightliner has seen the value in Trucker Buddy’s commitment to educate schoolchildren on the commercial vehicle industry,” said Jennifer Edwards, marketing communications manager, Freightliner Trucks.  “We are proud to continue our support, along with Detroit.”
