Freightliner Custom Chassis Announces the 2004 Model Mercedes-Benz MBE900 Engine as Standard Equipment for Walk-in Van Chassis
GAFFNEY, S.C…. Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation announced today that 2004 model Mercedes-Benz MBE900 diesel engines would be standard on MT-45 SR Walk-in Van chassis applications. These engines are lighter and more powerful than other engines in their class, and are designed for superb performance, excellent fuel economy, low operating costs and lasting durability. The 2004 model MBE900 will be available in the first quarter of 2004.
“The Mercedes-Benz MBE900 engine offers excellent performance, fuel economy, weight savings, quiet operation and reliability,” said Joe Snyder, Product Manager, Commercial Chassis, for Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation. “With its many bottom line benefits, the 2004 MBE900 engine is an excellent choice for numerous commercial vehicle operators, including walk-in van customers.”
The 4.3-liter, four-cylinder MBE900 is ideal for use in walk-in van applications including parcel delivery, snack food/bakery, laundry, utilities and emergency service. These engines combine advanced electronic controls, sophisticated fuel injection and extended maintenance cycles to provide an ideal solution for numerous walk-in van applications.
The MBE900 diesel engine available in the MT-45 SR chassis provides 170 horsepower and 420 lb. ft torque. The engine also delivers this range of torque at a low RPM, allowing for fewer, smoother shifts, better driveability and more capacity to climb hills and negotiate stop-and-go traffic.
The MBE900 will use a simple form of exhaust gas recirculation to achieve the 2004 emissions standards.
The MBE900 engine features a proven electronic control system that provides the ability to customize the engine for peak efficiency. The engines feature full diagnostics to assist maintenance personnel in quick and accurate engine assessment. The fully electronic engine management system is self-diagnosing and self-protecting. Additionally, the Detroit Diesel Diagnostic Link software allows the owner to run periodic reports for a comprehensive view of vehicle operation, assisting in the maintenance of the engine’s efficiency and performance.
The engine is designed to be durable over the long run. Core components include induction-hardened cylinder bores, cam and crankshafts; forged steel connecting rods; chrome ceramic-coated piston rings and a cast iron engine block optimized for strength.
The MBE900 is backed by a comprehensive warranty, which features a base three-year, 150,000-mile warranty for on-highway applications. Extended warranties are available. Also, with maintenance intervals of 15,000 miles, the MBE900 requires maintenance less often than other engines. The engines are supported by the vast Freightliner dealer network and the wide-ranging Detroit Diesel parts and service network.
