Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation to Build 50,000th FS-65 School Bus Chassis

Gaffney, S.C — Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation (FCCC) and Thomas Built Buses, Inc., both members of the Freightliner LLC group, will build the 50,000th FS-65 school bus in August, part of an order for the Eden Central School District in Eden, N.Y.

This order strengthens a long relationship between FCCC and its school bus customers in New York. Matthews Buses, Inc., of Dansville, N.Y., is the dealer supplying the buses to the Eden Central School District. Matthews also ordered 10 of the first 50 FS-65 chassis built by FCCC in 1996 and the Eden Central School District has bought two to four units a year since 1999. Overall, New York customers have purchased 6 percent of all FS-65 chassis produced.

“Building 50,000 FS-65 units in just nine years is a huge accomplishment for FCCC, which was a newcomer into the market at that time,” said Jack Conlan, President of Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation. “It’s a testament to the quality of the workmanship and the proven reliability of the FS-65.”

FCCC began production of the next generation school bus chassis for the Thomas Saf-T-Liner C2 this month. Thomas will start C2 body production in August. FCCC and Thomas Built Buses had 34 percent of the Class C market in 2003 and are increasing that share in 2004.
