Freightliner Custom Chassis Extends its Lead of Diesel RV Chassis Market

GAFFNEY, S.C. … Freightliner Custom Chassis remained the clear leader of the Class A diesel RV chassis market through the first six months of 2002, capturing 44.8% of the retail sales market in the first half and leading its nearest competitor by more than 11 percentage points.

According to industry tracking data published by Statistical Surveys, Inc., total retail sales of diesel Class A motorhome chassis from January through June reached 7,686 units. Of that total, Freightliner Custom Chassis had 3,447 units. The nearest competitor trailed with 2,560 units. Freightliner’s share in the second quarter alone reached 46.4%.

Jack Conlan, Freightliner Customer Chassis Corporation President, credits the growth in market share leadership to a number of factors, including new service and product offerings.

“Our commitment to enhancing our North American service network with highly specialized RV service centers -- called Oasis centers -- at some 50 Freightliner dealerships across the country has been a great success,” Conlan said. “In addition, we continue to combine the latest technology and engineering advances in our products so our customers realize both premium performance and high value.”

Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation manufactures premium chassis for the motorhome, delivery walk-in van, school bus and shuttle bus markets. It is a subsidiary of Freightliner LLC, the leading heavy-duty truck manufacturer in North America. Freightliner produces and markets Class 3-8 vehicles under the Freightliner, Sterling, Western Star, American LaFrance and Thomas Built Buses nameplates and is a company of DaimlerChrysler, the world’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturer.
