GAFFNEY, S.C….Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation announced that it will offer a new Independent Front Suspension (IFS) system on select Freightliner motorhome chassis. ZF Lemforder Corporation will provide its new Independent Front Suspension module to Freightliner Custom Chassis on an exclusive basis.
Luc Van Herle, Product Planning Manager, Motorized, for Fleetwood RV®, is enthusiastic about the new front-suspension system. "I've had the pleasure of seeing firsthand the responses of nearly 150 customers who have test-driven a chassis with the ZF IFS and were very impressed with the level of handling, ride and control this system provides."
The ZF IFS double-wishbone Independent Front Suspension offers significant advantages. The reduction in vehicle roll and steering effort, combined with a reduction in unsprung mass, results in superior ride, comfort, tracking and handling. An industry-leading 56-degree inner wheel cut leads to excellent maneuverability due to the tighter turning radius. Ultra-modern, pneumatically actuated disc brakes on the ZF IFS allow for excellent braking performance.
"The ZF IFS advances our industry-leading wheel cut even further, increasing it to 56 degrees,” said Dean Schaper, Director of Sales and Marketing for Freightliner Custom Chassis. “When you're driving a vehicle that's 36 feet long or longer, that translates into a much smaller turning radius. Our customers will, undoubtedly, appreciate that extra maneuverability.”
