Freightliner Introduces New Touchpad Shifter for Motorhome Chassis with 5-Speed Transmissions
Louisville, KY.… Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation introduced a new touchpad shifter option for its XC-model chassis with five speed transmissions. The new shifter system replaces the T-style shift lever in the driver cockpit.
Designed specifically for use with Allison 2000 series transmissions, the shifter gives motorhome drivers precise, smooth and easy shifting through the use of a touchpad shifter located in the driver console.
“We’re pleased to offer the convenience and operational advantages of touchpad shifters on all our motorhome chassis models,” said Jack Conlan, Freightliner Custom Chassis president.
Manufactured by Arens Controls, the touchpad shift selector system features a LED readout of transmission shift information.
The shifter mechanism mounts directly to the transmission, with no modifications, periodic adjustments, or maintenance required. Sealed and lubricated for its lifespan, the system also has redundant electrical systems and components that prevent single point electrical system failures.
The touchpad shifter option will be available for the five-speed Freightliner XC chassis in December 2002.
