513th Transportation Company Visits Plant, Gets First-Hand View of Military Vehicle Production
PORTLAND, OREGON…Freightliner LLC hosted a special event at the Portland Truck Manufacturing Plant to honor the Ft. Lewis, Washington-based U.S. Army 513th Transportation Company. The event – attended by over 100 soldiers from the 513th -- recognized the unit’s recent tour-of-duty in Iraq and showed the troops the manufacturing processes used in building Freightliner’s military vehicles.
The special event kicked off with a plant tour for the soldiers. The tours were followed by a full-plant event in which the 1,100 employees of the Portland Truck Manufacturing Plant gathered for a tribute to the Transportation Company.
The 513th Transportation Company utilizes Freightliner heavy-duty military vehicles to transport supplies in support of various military operations. The Company served a four-and-a-half month tour-of-duty in Iraq, from March to July of this year.
“Freightliner was honored to host the 513th Transportation Company at the Portland Truck Manufacturing Plant,” said Roger Nielsen, Chief Operating Officer, Freightliner LLC. “We are extremely proud to be a supplier of trucks to the U.S. military, and we were very pleased to welcome our military customers and thank them for their service.”
Brian Mooers, General Manager of the Portland Truck Manufacturing Plant, added, “It was very exciting to have the entire plant involved to honor the troops. I know the employees feel good about building these vehicles for the U.S. military, and they really enjoyed learning how the trucks they build have been used to defend our country.”
The Portland Truck Manufacturing Plant builds Freightliner- and Western Star-brand heavy-duty trucks, as well as vehicles for the U.S. military.
