Freightliner Recognizes 44 Suppliers as Masters of Quality

PORTLAND, OREGON…Freightliner LLC has named 44 manufacturers as recipients of the company’s Masters of Quality award for 2001. The recognized suppliers provide top quality components for vehicles bearing the Freightliner, Sterling, Western Star or American LaFrance nameplates. The 15-year-old Masters of Quality program recognizes suppliers who meet or exceed Freightliner's stringent quality standards and demonstrate an ongoing commitment to improving the quality of their products.

“Our suppliers play a large role in helping us deliver high quality commercial vehicles that provide our customers with significant competitive advantages,” said Roger Nielsen, Chief Operating Officer for Freightliner LLC. “Freightliner’s Masters of Quality demonstrate the best efforts of the supply chain that supports our North American manufacturing system.”

Reflecting Freightliner’s significant manufacturing presence in the Carolinas, ten suppliers from North and South Carolina made the list. Eight award winners represented Oregon, the home of Freightliner LLC’s corporate headquarters and the Portland Truck Manufacturing Plant. Also of note: sixteen manufacturers received the award for the first time this year. Since its introduction in 1987, no supplier has won a Masters of Quality award every year of the program.

The longest running Masters of Quality award winner is Consolidated MetCo Inc. and its wheel hub plant in Monroe, N.C. The ConMet facility is the first supplier to win the award for twelve years. Paramount Bedding Inc. of Damascus, Ore., won the award for the eleventh year. Paramount supplies mattresses for the sleeper units in Freightliner trucks.
