LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY…Freightliner Trucks announced today that an enhanced Driver’s Lounge is now available as an option on the Century Class® S/T, Coronado® and Columbia® Class 8 truck models. The updated Driver’s Lounge features a simplified and more durable design, larger work area and stabilized support system. The announcement was made at the Mid-America Trucking Show here.
The latest upgrades to the Driver’s Lounge were designed to offer a more generous work space with a reliable and easy-to-use support system, allowing for superior driver comfort and convenience while working in the vehicle.
“The enhanced Driver’s Lounge was designed to address the needs of the long-haul driver who spends a substantial amount of time in his or her vehicle,” said Mark Lampert, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Freightliner Trucks. “Driver comfort is a major factor in maintaining satisfied customers and happy drivers, so we focused our design efforts on offering a comfortable and spacious work environment for those Freightliner Trucks customers.”
The redesigned Driver’s Lounge is a self-contained unit that folds away for maximum convenience and interior cab space. When the table is lowered and stowed away, it completes the middle-area of the lower bunk. Cushions are then placed over the table to restore the bunk and bed area. Access to the storage compartment underneath the bunk is not compromised by the Driver’s Lounge option.
The lightweight Driver’s Lounge is engineered to be sturdy and user-friendly. By pulling a simple handle underneath the front lip of the table, it can easily be locked in the up and down position for stability and safety. A gas-assist cylinder helps lift the table into the upright and locked position.
Ample leg room is achieved by having the support pedestal located close to the back wall, leaving plenty of room under the table for maximum driver comfort. The corners of the table top are angled off, enabling easier entry and exit to the seating area. Additionally, a lamp is mounted on the back wall of the cab to illuminate the smooth and seamless surface of the table.
“To comply with service hour regulations, drivers spend a significant amount of time in their SleeperCabs,” Lampert added. “By offering a workable and convenient lounge configuration engineered to optimize driver comfort, we give them the ability to be productive and comfortable during their downtime.”
