Truck Manufacturer Loans Truck, Trailer to Carry Supplies to Areas in Need

PORTLAND, OREGON…Freightliner Trucks recently teamed up with Portland-based Northwest Medical Teams to send a truckload of vital supplies to devastated areas in Louisiana and Mississippi. A 2005 Freightliner Century Class S/T hauled a trailer full of medical, cleaning and school supplies, along with other needed items, to Moss Point, Miss., Metairie, La., and Baton Rouge, La.

Freightliner Trucks loaned the Class 8 truck, the 53-foot trailer, provided the drivers and paid for all of the fuel on the trip to the disaster-stricken areas in the gulf region. The supplies on board, donated by Northwest Medical Teams, are valued at over $294,000. The most critically needed items were cleaning supplies such as bleach, mops, disinfectants and rubber gloves.

“Freightliner Trucks wanted to do our part to help these fellow Americans in need,” said Jonathan Randall, Director of Marketing, Freightliner Trucks. “We had the truck and the trailer. We decided to put them to good use and transport these much-needed supplies to those affected by the hurricane.”

“Freightliner as a company has already donated $100,000 to the Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts,” Randall added. “But the people need supplies that simply aren’t available and cannot be bought at local stores. We are happy to deliver to them what they so desperately need at this time.”

Bas Vanderzalm, President of Northwest Medical Teams, stated, "We're grateful for the generous support of Freightliner Trucks. With their help, we're reaching thousands of families displaced by the hurricanes."

“We are proud to partner with Northwest Medical Teams. They run such a great program and offer so many wonderful services to people, in our country and abroad,” Randall said.

Freightliner Trucks is a division of the Freightliner Group, headquartered in Portland, Oregon, and is the leading heavy-duty truck manufacturer in North America. The Freightliner Group produces and markets Class 3-8 vehicles and is a company of DaimlerChrysler, the world's largest commercial vehicle manufacturer.
