PORTLAND, OREGON…Freightliner Trucks has presented five new Freightliner Coronado heavy-duty trucks to Petty Enterprises. Three of the Coronadoes are assigned to Petty Enterprises race teams, hauling Dodge Intrepid R/T racecars and equipment to NASCAR’s Winston Cup races nationwide. The other two will see duty at various tracks around the country where Petty crews conduct tests on their cars and equipment.

“We’re very excited to see the Freightliner Coronado hit the road with Petty Racing,” said Mark Lampert, Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Freightliner Trucks. “Freightliner is proud to team up with Petty’s Winston Cup teams and delighted that the new Freightliner Coronado will lead the way from track to track.”

According to Lampert, the trucks are being furnished as part of a sponsorship agreement with Petty Enterprises. Each Coronado is accessorized and custom-painted with the distinctive graphics of the individual sponsors of Kyle Petty’s #45 Georgia Pacific Dodge, John Andretti’s #43 General Mills Dodge and Christian Fittapaldi’s #44 Dodge Intrepid R/T.

“I jumped into the #43 Coronado as soon as it was delivered to Petty Enterprises,” quipped Richard Petty. “These things are not only beautiful on the outside, they are so big inside that I’m considering trading my motorcoach for one of these trucks. Guess I know why our guys always take the long way to the track.”

“The Coronado is a beautiful truck,” added Kyle Petty, CEO of Petty Enterprises. “With the graphics of each team and the exceptional paint jobs, the elegant style of the Coronado is hard to miss whether it’s on the road or parked in back of pit row.”

The 132-inch BBC (bumper-to-back-of-cab) Coronado blends the traditional styling of a heavy-duty conventional truck with new engineering innovations and advancements that enhance comfort, ride, handling, fuel efficiency, productivity and safety. The Coronado is available with one of the industry’s most spacious sleepers -- the 70-Inch Raised Roof SleeperCab as well as the 70-Inch Mid-Roof XT (Extra Tall) SleeperCab. Freightliner also offers a Coronado Day Cab for bulk and regional haulers.

“The Coronado is Freightliner’s new flagship for discriminating owner-operator truckers,” Freightliner’s Lampert said. “Since the NASCAR Winston Cup racing series is popular among our customers, Freightliner’s support of Petty Racing is a perfect fit.”

Richard Petty is the most successful NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) driver of all time. His record includes 200 career NASCAR Winston cup victories, seven season championships, seven Daytona 500 victories and scores of other titles and accolades. His company, Petty Enterprises, owns and operates NASCAR Winston Cup race teams.
