PORTLAND, OREGON…Freightliner Trucks today announced the availability of a Sit-Down Dual Drive option for the Business Class® M2 106 and 106V truck models. The dual drive feature, installed by Fontaine Modification, is an ideal option for refuse and municipal applications requiring right-side driving and controls.

The Sit-Down Dual Drive option is an easy-to-use feature that allows for smooth transitions from left- to right-hand drive operations. The right-hand drive option is optimal for use in refuse collection, road striping and street sweeping, among other applications where a right-hand drive option is advantageous.

“Freightliner Trucks is the first OEM in the industry to offer this dual drive feature in a conventional truck as an available, published option,” said Mark Lampert, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Freightliner Trucks. “This is exciting news for all of our customers who require a right-hand drive feature in order to maximize their productivity and make their jobs easier.”

The dual drive option is now available through the Freightliner Trucks dealer network as a specifiable, pre-delivery option. The easy ordering process allows the customer to spec the right-hand side drive option prior to vehicle manufacturing, so there are no aftermarket modifications or costs involved, saving the customer time and money.

Components of the Sit-Down Dual Drive option are: left- and right-hand throttle and brake pedals; a right-hand gauge package; a four-spoke right-hand steering wheel with a self-canceling turn signal switch, headlight dimmer and wiper, washer and hazard controls; center console including ignition switch, transmission shift control, panel light dimmer control and cruise control switches; and a unique “toggle-to-work” switch that allows for easy engagement of right-hand drive operation. The toggle switch is located on the center console.

To spec the Sit-Down Dual Drive option, the Business Class M2 106 or 106V must be equipped with an Allison 2100, 2500, 3000 or 3500 transmission, individual driver and passenger seats and air brakes.

If service or maintenance is ever required on the Sit-Down Dual Drive feature, customers need only visit their Freightliner Trucks dealer. This option is fully supported by the Freightliner Trucks dealer, parts and service network.

The Sit-Down Dual Drive option bolsters the already significant advantages of the Business Class M2 vehicles, which are built for reliability, efficiency and maximum productivity. Superior maneuverability and an up-to 55-degree wheel-cut allow for maximum agility while the 2500-square-inch windshield and low-profile dash provide an expansive view. The Business Class M2 is ideal for refuse and municipal applications as well as commercial truck applications including local and regional distribution, food and beverage delivery, fire and emergency services, fuel oil delivery, utilities, towing & recovery, agriculture and many others.

“With this right-hand drive option, the already outstanding capabilities of the Business Class M2 106 and 106V are further enhanced, allowing for maximum productivity, efficiency and ease of operation,” Lampert added.
