IBC Bakeries Purchases 309 Walk-In Van Chassis from Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation

GAFFNEY, S.C….Interstate Brands Corporation (IBC), the largest national wholesale baker and distributor of fresh-delivered bread and snack cakes in the United States, recently purchased 309 Freightliner walk-in van chassis. The vehicles will deliver the company’s vast variety of name-brand baked goods. IBC, headquartered in Kansas City, Mo., owns major bakery brands including Wonder®, Merita®, Butternut®, Hostess® and Dolly Madison®.

According to Joe Snyder, Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation Product Manager, “IBC has been a very loyal Freightliner customer, and, given the superior performance statistics of our MT-35 and MT-45 walk-in van chassis, we expect IBC to continue to be pleased with FCCC vehicles.”

“This is our largest purchase of delivery trucks in three years,” said Steve Long, Director of General Procurement at Interstate Brands Corporation. IBC purchased 181 MT-35 and 128 MT-45 SR chassis from Freightliner with varied specifications. “Freightliner’s ability to customize their chassis to meet our exact requirements allowed us to add upgrades to all of our new trucks,” said Long.

The MT-35 chassis is designed with tough, long-life truck components, but is in the light-duty class with a GVW (gross vehicle weight) rating of 10,000 pounds, ideal for the bakery and snack-food industry. The MT-45 SR is a medium-duty chassis with GVW ratings from 14,140 to 19,000 pounds.

The IBC trucks were purchased through Westfall-Freightliner Truck Center, the FCCC dealer in Kansas City, Mo.

Also available from Freightliner Custom Chassis (FCCC) is the MT-55, with a GVW rating of up to 30,000 pounds. FCCC’s lineup of custom diesel walk-in van chassis allows for a wide range of applications, from bakery delivery to parcel or newspaper delivery.
