GAFFNEY, S.C.-Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation offers hybrid and compressed natural gas walk-in van chassis to meet the growing customer demand for other-than-petroleum-based fuel power. Customers who purchase an FCCC compressed natural gas or hybrid chassis will receive a substantial federal tax credit.
“We are thrilled that we can offer our customers a chassis that reduces dependency on petroleum-based fuels and still exceeds our demanding performance and reliability expectations, while providing a tremendous, long-term economic benefit,” says Joe Snyder, FCCC product manager, Commercial Vehicles.
The FCCC models that qualify under the Alternative Motor Vehicle Credit are the MT45 and MT55 walk-in van chassis. The hybrid chassis utilizes the Eaton 44KW Hybrid Electric System. The CNG chassis is equipped with the 5.9-liter, six-cylinder Cummins® B Gas Plus Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) engine. The IRS recently posted this information on its Web site, www.irs.gov.
The MT45 Walk-in Van hybrid chassis earns customers a $4,500 tax credit; the Cummins B Gas Plus-powered CNG chassis can qualify for a sizeable tax credit of up to $25,000.
“The incentive for customers to select a hybrid or CNG Freightliner Custom Chassis is now substantially more economical,” says Mike Stark, FCCC national sales manager. “Our customers can benefit from taking advantage of purchasing our alternative-fuel chassis because the tax credits heavily subsidize their investment.”
FCCC’s involvement in producing hybrid-powered chassis dates back to 2003, and it was the first manufacturer to introduce commercial hybrid vehicles to the market. “Our hybrid chassis are manufactured on our production line for commercial use,” adds Stark. “They are not retrofits or prototypes.”
In fact, according to Hybrid Truck Users Forum (HTUF), FCCC is the largest supplier of commercial hybrid chassis in the United States.
