Louisville, KY.… Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation introduced its new top-of-the-line diesel pusher chassis with tag axle, the Powerliner II, at the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association’s National RV Trade Show in Louisville, Ky.
Designed with the demanding luxury motorhome owner in mind, the Powerliner II tag axle diesel chassis is designed to deliver the ultimate in riding comfort, powerful performance and rugged durability.
“The Powerliner II with tag axle provides customers the optimum combination of carrying strength with superior ride and handling,” said Jack Conlan, Freightliner Custom Chassis president. “Everything from the new independent front suspension to the next generation electrical system and driver control center was developed to address every aspect of the luxury motorhome owner’s need for comfort, exceptional performance and driving ease.”
Powered by the Caterpillar C-12 505 hp engine with 1,550 ft.lbs. of torque, the Powerliner II gross vehicle rating is 44,600 lbs. It is the ideal foundation for
premium motorhomes with body lengths of 40 feet or longer. The Powerliner II is available with wheelbase lengths of 240, 282, and 302 inches, from front axle to
drive axle. The engine is paired with the Allison 4000MH six-speed automatic transmission with push button control.
ZF-Designed Suspension Delivers Superior Turning Radius and More
The Powerliner II features the proven ZF independent front suspension system that is designed for the ultimate in smooth handling and riding comfort. This high-quality suspension -- also a popular choice of luxury European motor coach manufacturers -- features air disc brakes with wear sensors and gives the Powerliner II industry-leading maneuverability with a 56-degree wheel cut. The front suspension is offered with either a 12,000- and 14,600-pound axle weight rating. The Neway AD123 rear suspension with the NL110 tag axle suspension is rated at 30,000 pounds. The AD123 suspension features a parallelogram design for a constant pinion angle to reduce driveline vibration.
“The Powerliner II offers our customers an incredible riding experience and further establishes Freightliner as the leader who best knows how to deliver premium diesel chassis,” Conlan added.
New Electrical Package Introduced
The Powerliner II features a next-generation electrical package that provides the driver a more luxury car-like experience. From its single-key operation for ignition and doors, to its impressive new light control system, the Powerliner II allows the driver to make the transition to the motorhome cockpit with ease.
Standard on the Powerliner II tag axle chassis is a new driver message center with an exclusive multiple module data computer (MMDC) system. The center gives the driver up-to-the-minute data on engine and transmission performance, fuel consumption, and engine horsepower and temperature levels.
