It wasn’t until last year that Todd Christensen, a recycling rate manager for Waste Management of Oklahoma City, began adding Freightliner® Business Class® M2 106 trucks to his fleet. His employees have been thanking him ever since.

Christensen’s division of Waste Management Inc., the leading provider of comprehensive waste and environmental services in North America, operates five Freightliner Business Class M2 106 trucks with Stand-Up Right-Hand Drive. He currently has three additional Business Class M2 trucks with (SURHD) on order, and plans on purchasing more each year until their 24-vehicle fleet is comprised completely of Business Class M2 trucks with SURHD.

Used for refuse, recycling and other specialized medium-duty applications, Freightliner Business Class M2 trucks with SURHD make curbside entry and exit quick and easy. Utilizing an upright unit on the right side of the cab, drivers can operate the truck from both a standing position as well as from a seated position on the left-hand side during longer commutes. This configuration provides operational flexibility and maximum maneuverability.

“We use our Freightliner trucks each morning to pick up recyclables and have been extremely pleased with their performance,” said Christensen, whose division serves the communities of Oklahoma City, Edmunds and Choctaw. “Integrating the Business Class M2 trucks with SURHD into our fleet has helped us to increase efficiency, which is imperative because the success of our business rides on our ability to quickly pick up large quantities of recyclables from three heavily-populated communities.”

Built for efficiency on and off the job, Freightliner Trucks have now made it easier to purchase Business Class M2 trucks with SURHD by making them available direct from the dealer, which saves time and eliminates the need for a third-party install.

The conversion to SURHD is handled entirely by Freightliner Trucks, ensuring that the customer leaves the dealership with a high-quality truck direct from the manufacturer, ready to have the body mounted. And because the option is installed by Freighliner Trucks, SURHD is covered in the truck’s basic two-year warranty.

Designed for maximum comfort and safety, Business Class M2 trucks with SURHD are engineered to provide unparalleled visibility and room, and the wheel cut provides outstanding maneuverability in urban areas.

Christensen notes that reliability also plays a big part in ensuring productivity, and has noticed a stark contrast in durability between the older trucks in his fleet and his Freightliner trucks.

“Some of our other vehicles have maintenance issues every few months, such as broken cables on our fuel pedals, and we’ve had to wait excessive periods of time for parts,” said Christensen. “We haven’t had any issues with our Freightliner trucks and as a result we’ve been able to minimize downtime, saving our company money.”

Christensen’s drivers appreciate the Business Class M2 trucks with SURHD for their reliability, as well as the outstanding maneuverability and increased visibility which help them navigate through tight situations while servicing their routes. They also value its interior features.

“On many occasions my drivers have mentioned to me how much they enjoy the convenience and comfort options that the Business Class M2 trucks offer,” said Christensen. “They singled out the push-button parking brake, heating and air conditioning and stereo sound system as some of their favorite features not typically found in recycling trucks.”

Freightliner Trucks is a division of Freightliner LLC, headquartered in Portland, Oregon, and is the leading heavy-duty truck manufacturer in North America. Freightliner LLC produces and markets Class 3-8 trucks and is a part of DaimlerChrysler’s Truck Group, the world's leading commercial vehicle manufacturer.
