WILLOUGHBY, OHIO?Sterling Truck Corporation today announced the addition of the Acterra Crew Cab option to its comprehensive line of medium-duty vocational trucks. This new product offering introduces several impressive features, including the industry?s largest interior passenger compartment, measuring a full 113 inches from the front to the rear wall inside the cab.
?Whether the trade is construction, utility work, municipal service or firefighting, the Sterling Acterra Crew Cab will perform on the job site while getting the crew there and back in comfort,? said John Merrifield, Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing for Sterling Truck Corporation.
The Acterra Crew Cab features multiple diesel engine options, including the standard MBE900 engine, rated from 170 hp to 300 hp, and the optional Caterpillar 3126 and Cummins ISL and ISC, with available ratings from 190 hp to 350 hp. Available transmissions include those from DaimlerChrysler Powersystems, Eaton-Fuller and Allison. The Acterra Crew Cab features a 163-inch BBC and is available with gross vehicle weight ratings from 19,000 lbs. to 46,000 lbs.
The new Acterra Crew Cab is 15 inches longer on the inside than any other factory crew cab on the market today. It offers significantly increased overall headroom and legroom due to a flat floor front to back and a tall concave steel roof. The Crew Cab also features a monocoque, all-welded steel cab construction, reinforced with extensive use of corrosion-resistant galvanized steel panels. As with all Sterling conventional cab products, wide composite front and rear doors make entry and egress safe and easy.
Full-length exterior cab steps and grab handles are conveniently placed on the outside of the cab and inside each door to further aid entry. Standard fixed or optional air ride seating for front passengers, plus a standard full-length three-person bench seat in the rear, make comfortable accommodations for five persons. An air-ride cab suspension is standard with the new Acterra Crew Cab to allow for improved ride quality. And, as with all Acterra models, the easy-opening sloped hood offers increased driver visibility and easy walk-up engine access for quick inspection and repair.
?The Sterling name has become synonymous with quality and comfort,? Merrifield said. ?Our commitment to excellence makes our vehicles a popular choice across many specialized and general-purpose vocations. The Crew Cab is just one more example of that commitment.?
