Stunt Driver Mike Ryan to Drive Freightliner at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

PORTLAND, Ore. – Feb. 29, 2008 – Stunt driver Mike Ryan will drive his Freightliner Century Class® S/T Super Truck outfitted with a 10-by-15-foot American flag around the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday, March 2, during the singing of the National Anthem. The lap will begin at 12:45 p.m., just prior to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series UAW Dodge 400 race. Ryan is the world record-holder in the Pike’s Peak International Hill Climb.

Recognized as one of the world’s toughest automotive races, the Pike’s Peak course is 12.46 miles long with 156 turns and no guard rails. Drivers start at 9,400 feet above sea level and finish at 14,100 feet, amounting to a punishing one mile increase in elevation during the race.

Ryan has participated in the Pike’s Peak race for 12 years, winning 10 times and setting class records six times – all while driving hand-built Freightliner race trucks.

“It’s an honor to be asked to participate in the National Anthem ceremony. And, by displaying the American flag on my truck, I’m visually showing my support for our troops and our country,” Ryan said. “Freightliner Trucks also was excited about the opportunity to show its patriotism.”
