Western Star Trucks Inc. has qualified for the prestigious ISO 9001:2000 quality standard of the International Organization for Standardization. The certification follows an independent audit of Western Star's operations, management and quality systems. Western Star is one of the first North American heavy-duty truck manufacturers to qualify for this new quality standard.
The year 2000 version of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001 standard is a consolidation of ISO 9001, 9002 and 9003. ISO 9001:2000 is distinctive from previous standards in its focus on the systematic identification and management of the processes employed within an organization, and particularly, the interactions between such processes. Organizations seeking ISO 9001: 2000 certification must demonstrate that their business processes are designed to deliver continuous improvement and customer satisfaction. Areas such as internal communication, quality awareness, customer communication and departmental and functional objectives are audited, in addition to the traditional quality system areas of corrective actions, internal auditing and documentation control.
Western Star marked its achievement of ISO 9000: 2001 with a ceremony at its truck manufacturing plant in Kelowna, British Columbia, today. During the event, auditors from KPMG officially awarded Western Star the ISO 9001:2000 certification.
"Today's award highlights Western Star's focus on continuous improvement and emphasis on manufacturing high quality products," said Carsten Reinhardt, General Manager, Operations, Western Star Trucks Inc. "At Western Star, we will continue to enhance our systems and processes in our constant effort to build the highest quality commercial trucks for our customers.
