Western Star Trucks Announces Availability of Higher Horsepower Cat® C15 Engine

Powerful 600 and 625 HP Engine Ratings Now an Option on Select Western Star Models

WILLOUGHBY, OHIO... Western Star Trucks today announced the availability of the Cat® C15 engine rated at 600 and 625 horsepower in select models. For heavy-haul and severe-duty applications, the engine can be paired with Western Star’s new 1570-square inch radiator.

The new engine ratings are available for 2005 production on the 6900 XD, 4900 EX, and 123-inch BBC 4900 FA and 4900 SA. To accommodate a higher gross combination weight rating, the 4900 SA 123-inch BBC also is available with a new 1570-square inch radiator for the most demanding jobs, such as off-road vocational applications requiring a higher cooling capacity and torque. The available 1450-square inch radiator is ideal for operating primarily on-highway applications.

“The combination of the higher horsepower Cat C15 engine with a rugged and dependable Western Star makes a very tough truck,” said Jim Crowcroft, product marketing manager for Western Star Trucks. “The engine is built to last with series turbochargers, a higher compression ratio, and higher cylinder pressure for improved performance. The 600 and 625 engine is a good choice for owner-operators, small fleets, and heavy haulers looking for high horsepower performance in their Western Star.”

The Cat C15 625 horsepower engine is a powerful, high-performance engine with 2050 lb.-ft. of torque at 1200 RPM for customers working in the most extreme heavy-duty applications. The 600 horsepower engine, which delivers 1850 lb.-ft. of torque, is perfect for operators looking for a high horsepower with a lower cost driveline. Equipped with Caterpillar’s ACERT® Technology, the engine meets 2004 EPA standards.
