14 Western Stars Compete in Annual Truck Beauty Contest
WILLOUGHBY, OHIO…Western Star Trucks is proud to announce its customers who won the fourth annual Stars & Stripes Paul K. Young Memorial Truck Beauty Championships held at the Mid-America Trucking Show this spring. Four Western Star owners claimed the highest honors in several categories including Limited Mileage Bobtail, Expedite Truck, Expedite Interior, New Bobtail Truck, OEM Sleeper Interior, and First Show Bobtail.
“We had an exciting showing of Western Star trucks at the Stars & Stripes competition this year,” said John Merrifield, Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing for Western Star Trucks. “Our customers came from all across North America, proud to show off their trucks at the biggest trucking show in the country.”
2004 Notable Western Star Competitors
Rusty Wyrick & Tina Lomax: A former winner of several truck beauty competitions, Rusty Wyrick and Tina Lomax claimed Best of Show in the Limited Mileage Bobtail (1988 and newer) category with a 1998 pearl white Western Star 4900 EX. Appropriately named “French Quarters,” the truck featured a unique New Orleans-theme paint job, more than 1100 lights and a custom sleeper.
Loren Kelsey: Winning two first place honors with his 2001 burgundy 4900 SA Western Star, Loren Kelsey from Waterford, Mich., dominated both the Expedite Truck and Interior Expedite Truck categories. Kelsey has won several truck beauty contests including the Expedite class at the Stars & Stripes competition at Mid-America 2002.
Kevin & Jodee Fessler: Kevin and Jodee Fessler from Spring Grove, Pa., won first place in the Bobtail New Truck (less than 50,000 miles) category with their 2004 garnet red 4900 EX LowMax with custom fenders. They also tied for second place in the Interior OEM Sleeper category for their ultra-low roof 62” sleeper, which featured primarily factory-installed options as well as some personal decorations.
Ralph & Betty Wittren: Taking a quick break from hauling slot machines across the country in their 2004 white and teal 4900 FA walk-through Stratosphere sleeper, Ralph and Betty Wittren made their first appearance in any competition and received second place in the Bobtail First Show category.
